We are committed to embedding the principles of sustainable development across all areas of our operation and academic activities.
Our 2023/24 Sustainability Action Plan and Environmental Policy (2024) were adopted by our Senior Executive Team as part of our immediate response to these global environmental risks and commitment to embed good environmental practices across all areas of our operation. Specifically, our six-year 30% carbon reduction target against our 2018/19 baseline is one of our immediate responses to the global risks associated with climate change.
Our long-term environmental priorities are to continue to improve our environmental performance and play an active role in supporting the delivery of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). We will also continue to engage with all relevant stakeholders and like-minded organisations to make our planet a better place to live.
We are also committed to the continual improvement of our environmental performance through our ISO 14001-certified Environmental Management System which includes all functions, processes, and operations delivered from our UK campuses.
The sustainability team, with the support the Director of Estates and Facilities (Ian McManus), the Vice Principal Policy, Strategic Partnerships (Dr Philippa Lloyd) and all relevant stakeholders across Queen Mary, will continue to actively explore opportunities to integrate the principles of sustainable development into all areas of our operations as well as our academic offerings.
