There are a number of ways staff can get involved with sustainability initiatives at Queen Mary, and help to improve the overall environmental performance of the university.
Staff have access to number of discounts on food and drink at Queen Mary including Meat-Free Mondays and our reusable cup discount. Staff are also supported for engaging in sustainable travel on and between our campuses, including the Cycle to Work Scheme and regular bike maintenance sessions.
In addition to existing initiatives, we are also developing mandatory sustainability training for both new and existing staff to be launched later this year. This training will ensure that all staff are equipped with a general understanding of sustainability, the university’s sustainability objectives, their role in helping Queen Mary achieve these objectives, and advice for making more sustainable choices.
The Curriculum Action Network works towards embedding the SDGs across teaching at Queen Mary and sharing best practice. The group meets every other month, sharing resources from across the university, and other in the industry such as Westminster and University College London. The network is currently working towards the development of a university-wide staff and student sustainability module. Find out more and get involved.
Get Green Lab Certification with the Laboratory Efficiency Assessment Framework (LEAF). The Framework criteria focus on areas like equipment, people, waste, sample and chemical management and research quality. Find out more and get involved.
