The rankings are out! Find out how Queen Mary performed in the 2023/24 People & Planet University League and the QS World University Rankings for Sustainability 2024.
The People & Planet University League is a league table of UK universities ranked by environmental and ethical performance. The fourteen areas in which each university is assessed for are environmental policy, auditing & EMS, carbon management, sustainable food, ethical investment, ethical careers, sustainability staff, worker's rights, engagement, education, energy sources, waste & recycling, carbon reduction, and water reduction.
Queen Mary placed 31st in the 2023/24 People & Planet University League, with a total score of 60.3%. Particular successes where achieving 100% in auditing & EMS and education, due to having an externally verified Environmental Management System, Education for Sustainable Development training available for staff and students, a living lab, a highlight of sustainability research, and accessible higher education. Queen Mary also achieved 90% in engagement because of our Sustainability Week, Climate Action Week, funding for student-led sustainability projects, and student representatives for sustainability. The QS World University Rankings for Sustainability evaluates over a thousand universities over 95 countries and territories to assess how they are taking action in response to global challenges. There are three performance categories: environmental impact, social impact, and governance.
Queen Mary placed 54th in the QS World University Rankings for Sustainability 2024, with a score of 93.3% in social impact, 78.1% in environmental impact, and 89.8% in governance. Social and environmental impact were also broken down into performance lenses. Within social impact, equality and health & wellbeing were our highest performing performance lenses with scores of 99.4% and 99% respectively. Within environmental impact, our highest performance in score was environmental research at 94.1%. Find the full report here.
