Remembering Dr Richard Alan Lee (MBBS, The London, 1960), Ophthalmologist; (1936 - 2022)
After Taunton boarding school, Alan turned down a scholarship to Cambridge, preferring to train at The London Hospital Medical College. He lectured in Physiology at The London whilst working as a Ophthalmologist in Essex.
He loved his time working as sole casualty officer at Whipps Cross in the sixties. The son of the renown Anaesthetist John Alfred Lee, Alan leaves his wife of 50 years, Diana (a London Hospital Radiographer).
His daughter predeceased him from the long term after effects of treatment for Hodgkins Disease. He leaves his son and two older daughters.
He was always fascinated by vintage cars and owned several needing restoration including a 1922 Rolls Royce and a few Austin 7 models. His retirement wasn’t long enough to complete the restorations. At his funeral he was described as “one of life’s true gentlemen, highly intelligent and one of the nicest and kindest men we ever met."
This obituary was written by Mrs Diana Lee.
