The QMUL Observatory hosts an impressive range of telescopes in addition to the newer equipment:
Optical Telescope: This is used to take pictures and recordings of astrophysical objects when making night-sky observations. The software linked to this telescope makes it possible to control the telescope’s positioning as well as helping the observer understand the characteristics of what the telescope is focusing on.
Solar Telescope: This telescope is used to observe the sun, its structure and the sun’s rays which helps the department understand how the sun and the plasma on the sun works.
Optical Refractor Telescope: This equipment allows the user to look into the vastness of space with the naked eye; unlike the Optical Telescope, which is so powerful it picks up the pollution of London and blurs everything that the eye could see.
The three telescopes sit on a mount under the dome, which has been altered to rotate and open to give the telescopes direct access to the sky.
