Conor is a Computer Science student at Queen Mary University of London and was awarded an Annual Fund Performance Scholarship in recognition of his hard work.
My name is Conor, and I am in my second year studying Computer Science. I started my journey in Computer Science several years ago by teaching myself how to program out of pure interest and a general fascination with how technology worked. I am now an aspiring researcher and engineer in the field of Machine Learning. In recent years, my academic studies have further deepened and formalised my understanding and passion in these areas, where I have been able to apply my knowledge in various group and individual projects on my course, still maintaining a strong focus on self-teaching. My family are very supportive of continuous learning and have been very encouraging, pushing me to do things that otherwise I would not believe I was capable of.
I chose to study Computer Science at Queen Mary because of their notable excellence in research, and particular emphasis on project based work and applying knowledge in a practical manner within the Computer Science course. Furthermore, the campus is cohesive and in a good location for job prospects in London, as well as having a particularly diverse community.
I plan to apply for a Master’s degree in Machine and Deep Learning, and thanks to the Annual Fund Performance Scholarship, this is much more of a possibility now – in terms of both funds and showcasing my academic efforts to admissions staff, which in the long-term has reduced my anxiety about applying. When I first got the email about the Annual Fund Performance Scholarship, I was overwhelmed and so grateful that my efforts had been recognised by the university.
I would like to say thank you to the generous donors and the university for providing this scholarship and recognising my efforts. This scholarship has alleviated my financial burden and has massively boosted my confidence and motivation to strive for the best in my academic career, and I assure you that I will continue to apply myself to the best of my abilities.
Knowing that there is support available for hard-working students like me makes a huge difference and has allowed me to focus on my academic studies and worry less about my financial position. Thank you!
