"My name is Weronika and I’m a second-year Dentistry student at Barts and The London. I’m so pleased to be awarded the Scholarship for Excellence this year funded by our generous alumni. Thank you for your support!"
"I’m the first in my family to go to university so it’s been a very big deal for my parents. I was born in Poland and moved to London with my family when I was 6 years old. When I first moved here, I didn’t know the English language and had to adjust to fitting in. Before coming to university I studied in a state school and college, unfortunately, the teaching there wasn’t the best and I did struggle with my studies. However, my teachers always encouraged me and I worked very hard so I’m happy to now be studying at university.
"I chose to study at Barts and The London because it’s a reputable university and I wanted to stay in London. There is a huge community on campus that I feel so proud to be a part of. I’m really happy with my course and the content. The teaching here has definitely surpassed my expectation.
"I’m not eligible for a tuition fee loan because I’ve previously completed an undergraduate course on Neuroscience. It has been difficult for me to manage my tuition fees and studies. I was amazed to hear that I’d been awarded the Scholarship for excellence because of my high attainment and academic merit. I’m grateful to be acknowledged for my hard work and feel motivated to continue to do well in my studies. The special prize has eased some financial pressure off me and enabled me to pay for a lab coat, course equipment and revision materials.
"After I complete my degree I hope to train as a junior practitioner for two years. Although it’s too early to say where I want to specialise in I do want to do teaching in the future. I hope, through teaching, I can give back to the community and inspire the future generation.
"Thank you for this scholarship. It might not seem like a lot but your gifts make a huge difference to students like me. I feel more confident knowing that my hard work has paid off. You’ve brightened up my university experience- thank you!"
