Congratulations on your appointment as Chair of Barts Bone and Joint Health, Centre for Neuroscience, Surgery and Trauma. Please can you tell us more about the group and your role?
I lead the clinical academic collaboration in orthopaedics at Queen Mary and Barts Health, having joined in August 2020 as the inaugural chair of Bone and Joint Health.
Bone and Joint Health is a new unit which will transform research, education and care for people with bone & joint disorders and injuries. Our vision to become global leaders in bone & joint disorders and injuries. Bone and Joint Health recognises the need to bring together all aspects of orthopaedics to ensure that we provide our patients with the best possible care.
My vision for the group is to deliver worldclass clinical research and clinical academic training; providing opportunity for the next generation of clinician scientists to realise their aspirations.
What’s the most interesting thing you’re working on right now?
Building the team – we are actively recruiting surgeons, allied health professionals and scientists. If you are excited about our vision please get in touch!
What are you passionate about?
I am driven by having meaningful impact on patient care; my research is focused on the clinical and cost effectiveness of new and existing treatments to improve bone and joint health. My particular passion is for developing methodologies which harness the speed, power and efficiency of routinely-collected data but are coupled with the great advantages of randomisation.
Tell us something that we don’t know about you!
I serve in HM Reserve Forces and having realised that boxing may not be the best sport to combine with a surgical career, outside of work I’m usually mountain biking or rock climbing with my young sons in tow!
