Blizard student wins Course Rep of the Year award
Congratulations to second-year BSc Neuroscience student Maria Zareef Kahloon, who was recognised as Course Rep of the Year at Queen Mary Students’ Union’s (QMSU) Education Awards 2022.
QMSU’s student-led Education Awards provide an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the important work done by many students and staff over the past year, with the aim of improving the learning environment at Queen Mary University of London.
The Education Awards include the Course Rep Awards, awarded to Course Reps who have made a huge difference to students and their courses, the Student Council Awards, awarded to members of the Student Council that have delivered an impact to the students that they represent, and the Teaching Awards, awarded to teaching and support staff that have made an outstanding contribution to the student experience.
Blizard student Maria Zareef Kahloon was voted Course Rep of the Year, which is awarded to an outstanding Course Rep who goes above and beyond the call of duty to make life better for the students on their course. This award is nominated by students and staff.
Maria said: “I am extremely honoured to have been presented with this prestigious award. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to my course peers that have nominated me and felt comfortable talking to me about their concerns throughout the year. In the next academic year, I desire to work harder to ensure that all my peers have a comfortable last year at the university”.
The awards were presented to the winners on Wednesday 6 April 2022 at an event hosted at Drapers’ Hall. Saynab Sharif, VP Humanities and Social Sciences, presented the Course Representative awards.
Saynab said: “It was great to celebrate all the work students and staff can do when we collaborate and support each other to make a difference to education. It is always amazing to take the time to recognise the contribution of everyone who makes the special effort to go above and beyond, and to champion student voice.”
Adi Sawalha, Students’ Union President, said: “It was a pleasure seeing all students and staff being appreciated and getting awards and seeing what education can be - truly fun and inspiring to be at and a testament to QMSU and QMUL community”.
