‘Know Your S**t: Inside Our Guts’ is a six-part series aired on Channel 4 which features experts in gastroenterology, diet, psychology and mental health. Members of the public, who suffer from various, often debilitating digestive issues visit the experts at 'Poo HQ' to find answers which will help them to manage and treat their conditions. The experts also share gut health hacks and reveal how our gut impacts our physical and mental health.

Dr Rabia Topan is a Clinical Research Fellow at the Wingate Institute of Neurogastroenterology, affiliated to the Blizard Institute at Queen Mary University of London. She is also a clinical gastroenterology registrar working at St Georges Hospital, and features as the show's resident gastroenterologist.

Dr Rabia's research focuses on the impact of lifestyle factors in disorders of the gut-brain connection, including sleep, breathing and nutrition. The gut-brain connection is widely known as a bi-directional conversation between the gut and the brain involving the immune system, nervous system, hormonal system and microbiome. Dr Rabia also practises as a Yoga teacher and hypnotherapist – she is passionate about working to merge mainstream medicine with lifestyle for digestive health as many of these disorders, such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) do not have a single cure.

Throughout the series, Dr Rabia uses her knowledge of neurogastroeneterology and mind-body techniques to help the patient contributors to understand why they may be suffering with their condition and provide them with the tools they need to improve their gut health.
