National Centre for the Replacement Refinement and Reduction of Animals in Research PhD studentship now available
Dr Yung-Yao Lin from the Centre for Genomics and Child Health at the Blizard Institute has been awarded funding to offer a PhD studentship in ‘3D bio-printing human pluripotent stem cell-derived skeletal muscle constructs for disease modelling and drug discovery’ by the National Centre for the Replacement Refinement and Reduction of Animals in Research (NC3Rs)
NC3Rs has announced 16 new PhD studentships, which embed the 3Rs (Replacement, Refinement and Reduction of animals in research) in the training of early career researchers across a range of disciplines.
As part of this funding, Principal Investigator Dr Yung-Yao Lin has received a £90,000 grant to offer a PhD studentship in ‘3D bio-printing human pluripotent stem cell-derived skeletal muscle constructs for disease modelling and drug discovery’, which focuses on the Replacement and Reduction aspects of the 3Rs. Human iPSC-derived myogenic progenitors in combination with 3D bio-printing technologies can provide human-specific platforms critically needed for elucidating disease mechanisms and facilitating drug discovery. Importantly, our experimental paradigms are broadly applicable to any muscle disease.
