Queen Mary hosts precision medicine leadership event showcasing developments from academia and industry
On Thursday 5 March, Queen Mary hosted a successful precision medicine leadership event at St Bartholomew’s Great Hall on our West Smithfield campus. The event, run in partnership with One Nucleus and Cerba Research, explored new developments in the field of precision medicine as well as opportunities for academic and industrial collaboration.
Professor Sir Mark Caulfield
Sir Mark Caulfield delivered the keynote speech on Genomics England and the future of precision medicine, with other notable talks delivered by Professor Claude Chelala (Barts Cancer Institute) and Professor David van Heel (Blizard Institute). Industry talks were given by Astra Zeneca, Precisionlife, Celyad, Cerba Research and Roche. The event concluded with a panel discussion involving Professor Rakesh Uppal (Barts Life Sciences) and Jane Theaker (Kinomica).
Overall, the event was attended by 80 people from 31 companies spanning pharma, biotech, data analytics, IP law, medical writing, funding bodies and life sciences consulting - with many leads being generated. The success of the event highlights the appetite for academic and industry collaboration in precision medicine and the opportunities for Queen Mary academics in this area.
