Profile
Benita works as a senior lecturer in child health and honorary paediatric consultant at the Royal London Hospital. She qualified from the University of Edinburgh, and moved to London to do paediatric training. Her interests include medical education, paediatric infectious diseases and global child health. She has spent a year working in Sierra Leone, as part of the RCPCH/VSO fellowship, and worked previously as an education fellow at UCL, as course tutor for a BSc in paediatrics and child health. She works clinically as an acute paediatrician, with an interest in paediatric infectious disease, and has a lead role for paediatric undergraduate education on the MBBS course.
Teaching
Benita is the lead for the year 4 child health module and develops and organises paediatric teaching and clinical placements for students in their fourth year. She contributes actively to paediatric teaching in years 1 and 2, and teaches on the physician associate programme. She mentors clinical students and is the staff president for PaedSoc. She has been involved in developing global child health competencies for paediatricians, and designing a professional development framework for UK paediatric doctors wanting to develop a special interest in global child health.
