She graduated in microbiology from the University of Dundee and trained as a clinical microbiology biomedical scientist at Cuckfield Hospital, a district general hospital serving Mid Sussex. After obtaining state registration Michele moved on to the Royal Free Hospital, London and whilst there completed her studies for the part time MSc in clinical microbiology at Surrey University. In 1993 Michele joined the London Hospital Medical College as a senior biomedical scientist specialising in the microbiology teaching laboratory. In 2002 Michele was awarded membership of the Institute for Learning and Teaching by external peer review. In 2007 Michele became a Fellow of the Higher Education.
