Blizard Building NWOW update

Dear Blizard colleagues,

Meetings of the Centre Leads and User Representatives were held at the beginning of July on the NWOW project. Here is a short progress update.

Published:
  • Centre Villages – The locations of the desk areas for each centre were presented to Centre Leads and user group during the consultation meetings.  Desks have been allocated to the Centres on a 6:10 desk to person ratio with adjacent centre flexible/growth and new initiative zones to allow for projected growth in research and to accommodate new initiatives.
  • IT – IT provided an update about the current IT projects and are undertaking a detailed audit to establish specialist requirements, progress to date on the managed service rollout and device refresh projects. Each desk will be provided with a hub monitor and second monitor plus keyboard and mouse to support NWOW.
  • Booking system – Estates planning are currently engaged in sourcing a supplier to provide a desk booking system to meet the needs of the Institute eg long term booking capability and admin control.
  • Offices – It has been agreed that all offices, whether assigned by the Centres to individuals or bookable by others, will accommodate two people
  • Storage – A review of document storage requirements has been undertaken and further work is required to determine the potential for digitisation of paper copies.

Timeframe – Now the Centre Villages have been agreed in principle, detailed planning is well underway.  We are working towards an early November end date and we will keep you informed of key dates, once the details been finalised.
