Blizard Institute - help spread the word about Festival of Communities 2023

The Festival of Communities is returning on the weekend of 10-11 June, taking place in Stepney Green Park on the Saturday and the Queen Mary Mile End Campus on the Sunday, and the call for activities is now open!

Published:

Exploring living and learning together in Tower Hamlets, the Festival of Communities is a collaboration between Queen Mary and local-based organisations, and over 8000 residents joined us over the weekend in 2022.

The activities at the Festival are designed for local families to learn something new or try something different. These varied activities range from hands-on experiments, sharing stories and views, interacting with demonstrations, and trying out new things.

We are looking for students and staff of the Blizard Institute to take part by running a hands-on activity, demonstration, stall, exhibit or in other ways – we’re open to fun and creative ideas!

To support creating new or adapting existing activities to showcase at the Festival, Queen Mary staff and students can apply for up to £500 of funding through the Centre for Public Engagement. The CPE team are on hand to offer advice on your engagement activity design through festival information and 1:1 advice sessions and a hands-on engagement training session on Wednesday 15 March 2023 from 1pm-4pm.

It would be extremely helpful if you could recommend ways to spread the word about the opportunity to take part in the Festival amongst staff and students in your area.

The Festival call for activities and the funding opportunity close at the end of day on Thursday 30 March.

If anyone reaches out to you about the Festival, please feel free to direct them to the Festival website or to our inbox festival@qmul.ac.uk, which is monitored by everyone in the CPE.
