Brazil Accelerator Fund 2

Queen Mary, the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (FioCruz), and Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV) have pledged a total of £150,000 to create the Brazil Accelerator Fund II to provide seed funding for the development of scalable research collaboration between the three organisations and other Brazilian institutions.

Following the previous Brazil Accelerator Fund (launched in 2019), Queen Mary, FGV and Fiocruz have committed to a further seed funding programme. FGV hosted Queen Mary and Fiocruz at their offices in Rio de Janeiro in August, and the parameters of an exciting collaborative programme were determined at an international workshop.

Next phase of partnership
Colleagues are invited to submit applications that support new research engagement between Fiocruz, FGV and Queen Mary and which reflect the values of all three institutions.

We expect to fund around 10 projects. Successful projects will be awarded up to £7,000 from each institution, with maximum funding of £21,000 per project.

Applications are encouraged from across all Faculties, Departments and Schools and we welcome applications from all disciplines; in particular, we strongly encourage applications to develop new research partnerships or new research ideas in the fields of health, policy and economy, digital world and regulation.

Funding will be available until the end of December 2023 and must be used within this timeframe.

Given the collaborative nature of this funding call, we hosted a webinar on Thursday November 17 2022, where interested academics could learn more about the scheme and have the chance to meet potential collaborators.

To apply, read the Call Guidance - Brazil Accelerator Fund II [PDF 481KB], then complete the Brazil Accelerator Fund II - Application Form [DOC 113KB] and submit it to by email along with copies of the principal investigator’s CV from each organisation to Rachel Miles (r.e.miles@qmul.ac.uk) (Queen Mary) and research.net@fgv.br (FGV) and partnership.fund@fiocruz.br (Fiocruz).

Please note that applications must be submitted to all three email addresses.

Applications must be received by 23:59 Brazilian Standard Time on Sunday January 15 2023.
