Important information for all students - The State Funeral for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will take place on Monday 19 September 2022.
This day is the start of Welcome Week for our new students, and this page will set out what you can expect on the day and throughout the rest of the week. A number of the activities we’re offering will be rescheduled and further information will be added as plans are confirmed, so please check back regularly.
Should you wish, you will be able to watch television coverage of the State Funeral on our campuses. Screenings will be available from 9am-1pm at Peston Lecture Theatre (Graduate Centre) on Mile End campus, Perrin Lecture Theatre on Whitechapel campus, and Willoughby Lecture Theatre at our Charterhouse Square campus.
The sad news of The Queen’s passing has affected us all in different ways – the Queen Mary Advice and Counselling Service is open and available to support you, and our multi-faith Chaplaincy offers a space for quiet reflection on our campuses.
The day of the State Funeral will be a national bank holiday, to allow individuals and organisations to pay their respects to Her Majesty and commemorate Her reign, while marking the final day of the period of national mourning. A limited number of Queen Mary facilities and services will remain open to support you as a new student, but any Welcome activities you may have expected will be rescheduled.
All University libraries will remain open.
The Curve will also be open and serving food and drinks throughout the day.
Lawn games will be available in Library Square on the Mile End campus from 10am - 4pm.
While scheduled events will be postponed, a number of our Students’ Union social venues will be open should you wish to use them.
