Funding opportunity oncology

To all cancer researchers, as part of a pilot programme, Cancer Research Horizons has awarded QMUL a total of £50k of translational funding, called the Project Development Fund (PDF).

Through this award CRH hopes to further stimulate innovation in the oncology field and identify new technologies which might benefit from CRH/CRUK support:

CRH Project Development Fund 2024 Flyer [PDF 2,167KB]

Funding aim
The intention of the Project Development fund is to provide seed funding to develop the preliminary data required to develop an invention and move forward to the next stage of translation and/or commercialisation. Examples of projects which would be eligible for funding include:

•    Target validation prior to drug discovery programme
•    Proof of concept/strategy
•    Repurposing
•    Key in vitro or in vivo experiments to strengthen applications for translational funding
•    Generate key data needed for industry engagement and licencing.

Remit
Application to the PDF will be considered in any area of cancer research providing the application can clearly articulate:
•    the unmet clinical need to be addressed,
•    the commercial viability and likely (or potential) route to market for the invention.

Eligibility
Applications are eligible from any researcher employed at QMUL providing that they can confirm that they have access to space and equipment to undertake the study and that their contract allows them to undertake an independent research project.
•    Applications can be led by either a PI or Post-doctoral researcher (with PI support).
•    Each project can apply for a maximum of £25k
•    Projects should typically last up to 6 months

How proposals will be judged
Proposals will be assessed in consideration of both the scientific quality and the commercial viability. In other words, the proposal should be both scientifically excellent with good commercial potential.

Summary
•    Each project can apply for a maximum of £25k
•    The project must be cancer-focused
•    The application must demonstrate how the fund will enable the project to reach a new inflection point for translation
•    Applications can be led by either a PI or Post-doctoral researcher
•    Project should typically last for up to 6 months
•    Normal rules associate with CRUK funding shall apply
•    Deadline Mon 4 March 2024
