It has come to my attention that despite many discussions in the past, the ‘wearing of gloves in the lab’ issue still remains unresolved, or certainly, no final decision was agreed to.
I believe a small matter of a pandemic got in the way and it appears that this issue was tabled during that time, while other factors came into play.
Currently, users are required to remove their gloves when moving between containment levels so that gloves do not touch doors or door handles.
We are aware of the limitations of this policy and that many members of staff are not following it.
Lab users are invited to attend a consultation on Wednesday 05 July in Spikey 2.30pm - 3.30pm to discuss the glove policy at the Blizard Institute.
We are keen for as many people as possible to attend so we can hear the problems that people have with the current policy, and any suggestions to improve or change the glove policy.
Laboratory Management and Suzanne Mason, Health and Safety advisor for SMD, will be in attendance.
