Important information about email security

In the past few weeks, IT Services have seen a significant increase in phishing emails sent to our staff.

Published:

Most of these emails often contained an element of urgency regarding, but not limited to, gift vouchers (taking advantage of the festive period) and colleagues should be alert to anything that seems unusual.

As such, we have implemented an additional layer of email security which filters all suspicious emails and forwards them to you in order to review that they are genuine.

Here is what this would look like:
You will receive a system-generated email notifying you of any messages that require you to review and retrieve or block by following the instructions and links provided, e.g

phishing

Any emails classified as highly likely to be phishing or spam will be removed into an administrative-protected “quarantine” area, which will not be visible to you. You will receive an email alert and please reach out to the IT service desk if the email has been quarantined in error.

As universities across the country anticipate increased attempts at cyber attacks, it’s important we are doing all we can to avoid being a target. More about phishing can be found on the following link
