I am informing you of Estates and Facilities (EAF) infrastructure work which is scheduled to take place the weekend before the Easter break, Fri 22 - Sun 24 March 2024, in the Abernethy Building only.
The works will be electrical in nature requiring the entire shutdown of the Abernethy building on 23 and 24 March 2024. The work has been planned to start Friday 22 March from 12pm. Access to ALL of the ABERNETHY BUILDING from this date and time will be strictly out of bounds for H&S reasons. These works will not be affecting either the Blizard or Wingate Buildings, only the Abernethy Building. The Blizard laboratory management team will be onsite for the duration of this work to ensure that essential equipment is not affected. The work is hoped to be completed by the evening of Sunday 24 March so that staff are able to access the laboratory facilities on Monday morning as usual. Laboratory management are working closely with EAF and contractors Dennis Johns on the planning of this large undertaking. During this time, there will be no lights, ventilation, air con etc as ALL electricity will be turned off. Essential equipment such as fridges/freezers/incubators will be connected to a power bank that will be fuelled by a generator during this time.
I shall be in touch with more in-depth details over the next two months but for everyone who works in the Abernethy building please make note that you will be required to be out of the building by 12pm on Fri 22 March to allow for cables etc to be set up for the weekend works. Please could I ask that staff be mindful of these upcoming works when planning their experiments?
