World-leading QM and Barts Health researcher celebrated

It was an absolute delight to see Professor Tom Powles listed as one of the Time Top 100 most influential people in health in 2024. This comes hot on the heels of being one of Nature’s Top Ten Scientists of 2023. It is truly wonderful to celebrate one of our own medicine graduates, and indeed one whom I actually taught in Finalists Revision course in the early nineties. Well done Tom and Barts Cancer Institute!

FMD major recruitment drive

Our advert for 17 new global leading academic professors across all research intensive institutes in FMD is now live in Nature, the BMJ and Jobs.ac.uk. If there are world-leading researchers with high impact publications since 2021 and major funding that you have always wished was based at FMD then do encourage them to apply. You can read our announcement.

We are also out to advert for a new Dean for Education and Student Affairs and are just about to shortlist for the Academic Centre for Healthy Ageing aiming to appoint up to 3 new Chairs in this new centre based at Whipps Cross Hospital focused on addressing unmet need.

FMD Leadership whilst I am away

I will be on leave between 9-12th May visiting friends from when I was a medical student here. During my absence Professors Chie Adachi and Amrita Ahluwalia will be acting as Vice Principals for Health for education and research matters in my place. Dr Francesca Gliubich will be in day-to-day operational control and is your first point of contact if you need our help: f.gliubich@qmul.ac.uk.

Please have your say in the staff survey

Thank you so much to all of you who have completed the Staff Survey so far. Please can I invite all who haven’t completed it to do so by the 17th May 2024 at 1700 hours. This is the key chance to share your views. Below are the percentage completion rates at 1900 on 7th May 2024. Unless we get above 70% there is a risk it may not reliably capture your views. Please can all staff and Institute Managers try to get everyone to complete the survey.
