Message from the Principal: season’s greetings

Published:

Dear colleague,

As the extended Christmas break approaches, I would like to thank you for all your hard work this year, and to wish you the very best for the festive season.

2022 has been another very successful year for Queen Mary, and at the heart of that success is our community of staff, students and alumni. As our end of year video message demonstrates, there are many things we have achieved in the past 12 months that we can all be proud of, including:

  • Our fantastic REF2021 results, confirming Queen Mary’s place among the top UK research-intensive universities
  • Finally being able to celebrate, in person, the successes of our 2020 and 2021 graduates with our largest set of Graduation ceremonies in January 2022
  • Winning another accolade for our work on social mobility
A great result in the KEF, maintaining our strong position in the sector in relation to knowledge exchange
  • Being the first university to be awarded the Platinum Watermark for public engagement and launching our Civic University Agreement
  • Recording the best year for student applications in the history of Queen Mary with over 100,000 student applications, highlighting the growing reputation and popularity of the University
  • Ranked within the top 20 universities targeted by the largest number of top employers to recruit our graduates

As we look forward to 2023 with optimism, I hope you have a wonderful and restful break, and I look forward to welcoming you back in the new year.

Best wishes,

Colin
