Mile End Library Transformation – Floor 2 Reading Room Closure

June-November 2022

Published:

This is to remind you about the reading room we currently have closed on Floor 2 North of the Mile End Library, as part of our Transformation Project.  We have temporary services in place to provide continued access to books on Floor 2.

The reading room is closed for redecoration, new lighting and new carpet, and will need to remain closed until 18 November 2022. We are aware that this is well into the teaching term, and the following are the mitigations we are able to suggest:

Reading rooms

As an alternative we can offer staff and students quiet reading rooms on Floor 1, and the new quiet room on the ground floor between the Welcome Desk and the Teaching Collection.

Access to print collections

We will be offering a fetching service, so all book stock on Floor 2 North will be available on request, using the request form here. The subjects in this area are social sciences, not including Law, and humanities not including English literature. We aim to make materials available within 24 hours Monday to Friday, but some items may take longer.

Please note that the books in this reading room are for background reading. Many essential readings for modules should be available as e-books and/or in the Teaching Collection on the Ground Floor, which remains fully open.

Please email library@qmul.ac.uk if you have any questions about the closure or the temporary services.
