I hope you had a good and restful bank holiday weekend. I want to kick-start our week by sharing a few messages and updates.
First, I’d like to welcome our new Barts and The London Students Association Officers - Amaan Abbas (BLSA President), Kavi Thobhani (VP London) and Raghuv Kanwar (VP Barts). I want to thank Charlie Sellar, Annie Mae Wright and Liam Nicholson who did an outstanding job for us all as the BLSA team last year. I am already working closely together with the new officers and planning the opening of the refurbished Garrod Building. Works are making good progress and we are on target to reopen for teaching in September, with our IHSE staff moving into the premises at the end of October. Attached you will find a photo of the beautifully restored lights in the Old Library.
I wanted to let you know that after some herculean work undertaken by our Admissions Team and Anthony we were able to fill almost all places in MBBS, BDS and BScs courses (barring a few pending remarks). I should like to thank everyone involved in the admissions cycle.
In other Faculty news we have now welcomed Professor Chris Tredwin as our new Dean for Dentistry. He has already hit the ground running and I am very excited for the opportunities offered by his considerable experience.
September means a new academic term for our 5th Years who will be back on campus starting from next week. In good news for all of us I can share that in 2023 we had the third highest pass rates in the UK Prescribing Safety Assessment out of 36 UK medical schools. This is a real testament to the quality of our students and our teachers. This result was achieved by last year’s cohort who were sent off with a goodbye in St Paul’s Cathedral in July but I have full confidence that our new 5th years will nail this metric as well.
Finally I am also thinking of all of our MBBS and BDS students who are undertaking resits – finger crossed for a great outcome and thanks to the IHSE and Dentistry teams for all the extra support you have given to our students.
I hope you all have a good week.
