Ongoing issues with phones at the Blizard Institute

We are aware of ongoing issues in relation to staff phones, specifically staff being unable to log into their extension on handsets.

Published:

We have discussed the issue with IT Services, and they have advised that this is due to the age of the handsets which are now too old to run the new software. We want to make you aware of two reliable alternatives:

Internal calls only

MS Teams is suitable for internal calls and should be used in the first instance if you want to contact an internal colleague. All Queen Mary staff will have an MS Teams account so you should be able to find the person you are trying to contact by typing their name in the search bar at the top of the Teams interface. You can then make an audio call using microphone only, or a video call if needed.

External calls

If you need to make external calls, then Micollab is a reliable option. It is an app that can be installed onto laptops or mobile phones. To register for Micollab, you will need to contact the ITS Helpdesk (helpdesk@qmul.ac.uk) and ask for them to set you up with an account. You will then receive instructions for how to install the app once your account has been created.

A number of colleagues at the Blizard Institute are already using Micollab, and report that it is easy to use and reliable.

If you have any questions, please contact your centre manager who will be able to advise you on your options.
