As things currently stand these sessions will be delivered online, via Zoom. To sign up, please email l.lewis@qmul.ac.uk with the date of your choice. A calendar invitation will then be sent out to all attendees closer to the time, which will include a Zoom link to the online session and a short training video for you to watch beforehand.

In this interactive 2 hour workshop potential OSCE assessors will learn the underlying pedagogy of OSCE examination, the process of marking different types of OSCE exams and how to tackle issues that may arise in an OSCE. A multi-method teaching approach will be used including group discussion, best practice video examples, and a question and answer session. The Medical School is moving across to an online system for OSCE marking, moving away from the paper based OSCE mark sheets. These training sessions will incorporate the new online system. Both new and existing examiners are required to attend OSCE training every 3 years as per GMC requirements.

Just to make you aware, the criteria for examining OSCEs for our medical students is as follows:

  • Doctors and nurses must be currently registered with their respective regulatory body. However, if a retired healthcare professional has taught on the MBBS or PA course this year, they are eligible to examine.
  • Non-clinical PhD students or FY1s are NOT eligible to examine in any part of the OSCE.
  • FY2s are only eligible to examine in Year 1 & Year 2.
  • PAs can examine MBBS Years 1, 2 and 3 as well as MSc PA Years 1 and 2. If you are a PA with a paid contract with the school then you are welcome to examine in any year group across the two courses.
  • If you graduated from QMUL/Barts with MBBS within the past five years or MSc PA in the last two years, you are NOT eligible to examine. You can still have a supervisory role and are welcome to attend the training, but please let me know when signing up.

If you have never been trained at BLSMD, please sign up to a session. I look forward to hearing from you.
