Phone & Printing Upgrades

Phone System Upgrades

IT Services will be upgrading the phone systems next week. To provide our user community with the best experience possible, we have arranged for these to take place outside of normal business hours. Here are the details of how this will affect you:

    Thursday, 16 May 2023, 7pm - 11pm

  • For those who use softphones/Contact Centre Management software (such as Admissions, Switchboard and the ITS Service Desk), you will not be able to login to Ignite or to make or receive calls from your softphone during this time.
  • Anyone who needs ITS support can still contact the ITS Service Desk via phone during this upgrade window as calls will be diverted to our out-of-hours partner, NorMAN. 

    Saturday, 20 May 2023, 8am - 8pm

  • For those who use a physical desk phone in the office, you will not be able to make or receive calls using your phone during this time.
  • If you use a physical desk phone, you may also need to log back in to your phone after ITS has completed the upgrade. To log back in, you will need your extension number and PIN. For information on how to log back in to your phone, visit the ITS website
  • Note that this upgrade will also impact phones in lifts – ITS have already been in contact with relevant parties to coordinate this effort and ensure the safety of our students and staff. 

Printing Upgrades for Self-Managed Devices

 ITS will also be upgrading the printing service for self-managed devices. Here are the details:

    Thursday, 18 May 2023, 10am - 1pm

  • For those with self-managed devices, you will experience a disruption and inability to print during this timeframe. The affected printers are located within Finance, Estates & Facilities, Student Union Offices, the Malta Campus although additional printers may be affected as well.
  • If you experience any issues with printing after ITS have completed the upgrade, please contact the ITS Service Desk and raise a ticket for support (please reference INC/254094 when contacting the Service Desk).

Dept W Preparation for Clearing 2023 – ITS Tech Bar, 17-18 May 2023 

QMUL will likely use Dept W for Clearing 2023 and, in addition to previous ITS workstation upgrades to prepare for this, ITS are setting up a Tech Bar on 17-18 May 2023 to provide additional support for workstations. Visit the ITS Tech Bar in Dept W, on the second floor at the high tables, if you experience any workstation issues. We can ensure we are prepared for Clearing 2023 and simultaneously improve the IT service in the building.
