His notable awards include the prestigious Chanel-CERIES award for skin research 2016 and ESPD Schnyder Memorial Prize Lecture in 2018.
He has previously served as Deputy Director of Research at the Blizard Institute. Currently he is co-lead of the Barts Charity Lecturer programme and the Barts Centre for Squamous Research.
Commenting on his appointment, Professor Kelsell said: "It is an honour and a pleasure to be asked to lead the Centre that I have been part of for the last 25 years. I look forward to supporting all members of the Centre in their research and teaching activities and working again with Blizard management!"
Professor Edel O'Toole said: "David has a distinguished record as a scientist and leader in skin science and I am sure he will do an excellent job as Centre Lead of Cell Biology and Cutaneous Research going forward."
As Professor Edel O’Toole steps down from the role, we would like to thank her on behalf of the whole Institute for her hard work over the past seven years.
Kind regards,Professor Mary Collins
