The Queen Mary Global Policy Institute, the University’s multidisciplinary engine for global impact, has refreshed its strategy and is looking to appoint new strategic theme leads to guide its work.

The Queen Mary Global Policy Institute is the University’s multidisciplinary engine for global policy impact.

It takes Queen Mary's world class research and translates this expertise into positive social and practical dividends, by addressing global challenges across a range of thematic areas.

As well as producing original outputs in the form of blogs, policy papers and consultancy, and facilitating opportunities for interaction between overseas policymakers and academics, the Institute provides bespoke training, continual professional development, and expert advice. It works in close partnership with a number of strategic partners spanning UK and overseas government, think tanks, judiciaries, and the private sector, to name a few.   

The Institute is experiencing an exciting new phase of growth and development, and having recently refreshed its Strategy we are looking to appoint strategic theme leads to guide our programme of work across 2022-2023.

The opportunity

To accelerate the Institute’s continued development, the Vice Principal (International) is pleased to invite expressions of interest from colleagues for four fixed-term positions attached to the Queen Mary Global Policy Institute, to lead the development of a dynamic programme of work and activity in the following themes and corresponding sub-themes. 

1. Rights, Inclusion and Diversity

  • Migration
  • Surveillance
  • Rule of Law 

2. Resilience and Sustainability

  • Community Cohesion
  • Planetary Health
  • Innovation and AI 

3. Health, Recovery and Reform

  • Reform of Healthcare Systems
  • Trauma and Recovery

4. Security and Governance Futures

  • Food and Health Security
  • Crisis Response
  • Inclusive Governance

The role is part time (0.2 FTE), and subject to agreement of the relevant Head of School or Institute. The role is fixed-term for one year, with potential for renewal and will count towards senior leadership responsibilities in your annual appraisal. 

The deadline for submissions is 5.00pm on Friday 30 September 2022.
