Staff Networks: Co-Chair Elections

Elections are taking place throughout November and December to appoint the Co-Chairs of our Staff affinity networks; Staff Disability Network,  Parents and Carers Network and QMOut

Published:

We would really appreciate the support of this group in spreading the word and promoting these Co-Chair opportunities. Please share and recommend this opportunity to staff within your School/Institute/Directorates. Research and evidence suggests that a recommendation from a colleague or friend can increase the likelihood of colleagues from under-represented groups stepping into leadership roles. If there are any colleagues in your local area that you think would be well suited to being a Co-Chair of one of these networks, please make them aware of the opportunity and encourage them to consider putting themselves forward.

Colleagues interested in standing for election can find out more on the
Staff Networks Co-Chairs page on Connected which explains the election process and outlines how colleagues can put themselves forward. Colleagues can self-nominate by providing an expression of interest outlining the experience and skills they will bring to the Co-Chair role and their vision for the network over the next two years. Expressions of interest should be submitted by 5pm on Wednesday 6 December and be no more than 250 words. The main role and responsibilities are outlined in the Co-Chair Role Description which are also available on the Connected page above.

Colleagues can stand for election/vote as long as they have joined the network before submitting their nomination or vote. Colleagues can join a network by joining the individual network’s MS Team (Staff Disability Network, Parents and Carers Network and QMOut) by following the links.

It was recently agreed by SET that Co-Chairs will be provided with Citizenship Time of up to two working hours per week to undertake network activity. By providing Citizenship Time, Queen Mary formally recognises the important role staff network Co-Chairs play in achieving our mission to be the most inclusive university of its kind and the time required to effectively carry out the role.

If colleagues would like to learn more/have any questions about standing to become a Co-Chair, or how the elections will work they can contact Michael Jannetta, People, Culture and Inclusion Manager to arrange an informal chat.
