Teaching has restarted in the Garrod Building

The Garrod Building has commenced occupation for teaching from Monday 16 October 2023 in the refurbished space.

The BLSA area and some of the offices are still being refurbished so we will not be using these spaces or the old Library. Excitingly, this is really coming together now as our new Staff-Student Hub and the new home for Barts and The London Students Association. It will also provide the new home for the Institute for Health Sciences Education. Attached are some photos of the Old Library, the new Team Science Computer Suite, the Old Pathology Museum and a video of the circulation space. The building is quickly transforming into a mixed learning and events area.

The old Library will be a staff student hub which can be used for events, drop down working or social events. There is a small stage and liberal power supply through sockets and USB.  The Milton Lecture Theatre has new seating and power at seats throughout and can now accommodate 120 people.

I want to thank everyone who has worked so hard in IHSE, estates, my team and the BLSA officers. The BLSA building remains open and we will transfer our student facilities later possibly by early November 2023 as there is still work to do in those areas. All portraits and sculptures will return gradually the walls and alcoves. Finally, we have been working closely with the Barts Health Archive Team and a new climate controlled display of Royal London Hospital artefacts from the museum. The display will be rotated twice a year.
