The installation of the scaffolding on the East, South and West sides of the interior of the Blizard Building will commence from the evening of Monday 19 June 2023. Working hours of the contractors Monday to Friday will be 6pm to 6am, with a further 2 hours from 6am to 8am to allow for clean-up. They will also be working during the weekends.
We apologise for the short notice, but please be advised that there should be no working on the upper floors or the basement main lab near the mushroom during this time and that the main entrance remains out of use for staff except in an emergency.
If you have any questions or concerns around working in these areas during this time, please contact Natalie McCloskey (n.mccloskey@qmul.ac.uk), Rachael Parker (rachael.parker@qmul.ac.uk) or Steve Borthwick (s.borthwick@qmul.ac.uk).
The scaffolding will be at high level. During installation, the floor will be protected in the areas that Beardwell are working and removed each evening, with the exception of the protection on the west side stairs from Ground to first floor. This will remain in place for the duration of the erection and grip tape and hazard warning will be installed to ensure added safety.
The erection of the scaffold will start in the northwest corner of the building and the scaffolders will work in a counterclockwise direction, finishing in the northeast corner of the building.
Approximately one week after the commencement of the scaffolding installation, contractors will access the blinds at high level to allow review of works needing to be completed.
