Flying Start Accountancy students make the most of summer opportunities

During the interval between their first and second years, Rizwan Ali and Harshini Senthil, students enrolled in the BSc Accountancy (Flying Start) programme in partnership with PwC, made the most of their time away from studies. They actively pursued opportunities to boost their career prospects, seizing the summer break as the prime opportunity to do so.

Rizwan completed a ten-week internship at Mileway, the leading last mile logistics real estate company in Europe. He reflects on his experience below:

“As part of The Brokerage, a social mobility charity committed to supporting young people achieve their career potential, I was able to become an Asset Management Intern at Mileway, a Blackstone-owned company, a summer internship program which was only available to Brokerage candidates. This particular internship was available for first year and gap year students, which can be rare to come by. It was an amazing and enriching experience that I am incredibly grateful for, I had 6 weeks working at one office with the Asset Management team but also 4 weeks at the Transactions office, assisting with acquisitions. The firm’s core activity is very niche, specialising in ‘last mile logistics real estate’. I learnt so much, both about the industry and myself, further developing my hard and soft skills. I highly encourage people to join initiatives like The Brokerage and take advantage of their opportunities.”

Harshini took part in a HSBC Insight Day, deepening her knowledge of the finance industry:

“Attending the HSBC Insight Day with Tamil Professionals Network was a captivating experience that provided an insight into the world of global finance. The event offered a comprehensive overview of the various career opportunities within HSBC as well as learning about the company’s values and commitment to diversity.  The day consisted of engaging presentations by professionals which was both informative and inspiring. The highlight of the day was the interactive workshops and networking sessions where we had a CV tailoring session and also learnt about how to ace the application process. Lastly, we ended the day off by visiting the trading floor and networked with the traders. It was a thrilling experiences to witness firsthand the fast paced, high pressure environment of trading and to see how global markets operated in real-time. Overall, the Insight Day at HSBC was a fun experience and left me motivated to explore the finance industry further.”
