Queen Mary students attend Clinton Global Initiative University

In the beginning of March, four students from the School of Business and Management travelled to Nashville, Tennessee to participate in the Clinton Global Initiative University (CGIU) annual event. The students were accompanied by Dr Fernando Barrio, the School's Director of International Engagement and Liason with CGIU.

CGIU is a worldwide community of students and mentors devoted to finding innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges. It includes hundreds of undergraduate and graduate students from different countries who join a year-round community of learning, leadership, and action. It all starts with this global meeting, where students meet topic experts and high-profile innovators. The programme offers one-of-a-kind training, resources, and personalized mentorship. Students learn how to ideate, design, implement, and evaluate a social impact project.

This year, four SBM students were accepted onto the programme. Our students proposed two commitments for action, which will be developed throughout the year, guided by our Entrepreneurship Hub’s members and a CGIU designated global mentor.

Master student Arpitha Tollapalli Gopinath and bachelor students Masa Teofilovic, Diana Zharovska and Isotta Di Domenico, spent an unforgettable weekend at Vanderbilt University. More than 700 students from 96 countries launched their commitments to action, networked, and gathered support for their projects, finishing with a community day of action.

Dr Barrio held meetings with CGIU network members, as well as with the Clinton Foundation CEO, Kevin Thurm, CGIU CEO Ragina Arrington and Dr Chelsea Clinton, exploring further engagement of QMUL with the different Foundation programmes and deepening our involvement with the CGIU.
