On Wednesday October 11, the School of Business and Management hosted 'The Inaugural Employer's Address,' featuring keynote speaker Kevin Ellis, Chair and Senior Partner of PwC, the UK's largest private sector graduate employer.
As the world continues to evolve, the challenges for graduates seeking employment have never been more complex. With shifting economic landscapes and evolving workplace dynamics, students face a unique set of hurdles when entering the job market. Recognizing the significance of these issues, 'The Inaugural Employer's Address' sought to emphasise the vital role of social mobility and diversity in recruitment.
As the Chair and Senior Partner of PwC, Kevin Ellis brings a wealth of experience and insights into the intricacies of the graduate jobs market. His address delved into the current state of the job market, offering a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities that await graduates in the contemporary workforce.
Also speaking was Queen Mary alumna Noareen Raja, Head of Middle East Distribution at Legal & General Investment Management, the UK’s largest asset manager. Noareen is one of SBM’s first graduates and a role model for our students demonstrating what they can achieve and embodying the type of success studying with us can lead to.
Following the talks, attendees had the opportunity to engage in a Q&A session, providing a platform for in-depth discussions and valuable insights. The event concluded with a networking reception, offering attendees the chance to connect with students, academics, and industry professionals.

Many of our students lack the connections of those from more privileged backgrounds, and that’s why we need employers to help by providing employability experiences, such as internships and placements. These experiences help our students complete for graduate jobs.
