When I undertook the LLM programme through CCLS, I found the varied professional backgrounds of my fellow students a great opportunity to learn about both the practical, real-world examples of what the course covered - where the rubber hits the road, so to speak, and also the latest case law or legislation on various topics. Who better to discuss privacy law with, than a data protection officer, who is a student on the course. Or, what about the latest case on protecting intellectual property in computer software? Let's chat about that with a practising lawyer in the field who is also on the course. I've decided to get involved in the CCLS Distance Learning Chapter as I hope it will be a forum to continue those types of conversations and discussions on new, emerging and topical areas of TMT law, and be a great way to keep in touch with fellow alumni.

What do you think the importance of the Chapter is?

TMT law is at the intersection of technology and regulation with most jurisdictions grappling with issues related to TMT law. Ranging from online safety/harms legislation being updated or considered across jurisdictions, to thinking around how to combat disinformation, how to regulate digital assets, ensuring privacy in a connected world, or the implications of the convergence of gaming and gambling. And so much more. There is plenty happening in this space across jurisdictions. Distance Learning alumni and students from CCLS span the globe, so the Chapter is uniquely positioned to be able to be a valuable platform to learn about, and keep on top of, TMT law developments and debates across a host of jurisdictions.

How do you hope the Chapter will benefit alumni who join?

I hope the chapter will benefit alumni and students by being a topical forum to discuss and debate TMT law. Also to share insights, articles, legal developments and be a great international network of legal professionals.
