Karina Ley Chinguel Degregori (Banking and Finance Law LLM, 2019) explains why she got involved with the chaper.
Why did you decide to get involved with the Peru Chapter?
Undoubtedly one of the best decisions and experiences in my life has been to do the LLM in Banking and Financial Law at QMUL, London. The master's degree has allowed me not only to broaden my intellectual horizons in the legal world, but it has also given me the enormous opportunity to grow personally and professionally by connecting with a group of brilliant and enthusiastic professionals from all over the world eager to learn, many of which they are now close friends.
Based on my experience at CCLS of QMUL, I decided to get involved in leading the Peru Chapter because I strongly believe that by connecting CCLS alumni from Peru, of different years and specialties, we will have the giant opportunity - just as we did in London - to share our knowledge, backgrounds, opportunities and interests in common. It will also be an opportunity to stay permanently connected with our QMUL alma mater - and of course with its renowned professors, as well as with other CCLS Chapters.
The fundamental idea is to build up and be part of one of the largest and most solid professional networks in the world.
What do you think the importance of the CCLS Peru Chapter is?
Knowing that there is a large CCLS alumni community in Peru, for whom many opportunities were opened after the master's degree and as a result, had their vision and perspective of the labour and academic world broadened. I believe that the Peruvian Chapter has great potential for alumni to become an important platform to gather and share knowledge, skills, hobbies and common interests, and that can serve as an incubator for ideas and projects that we can put into practice. This will undoubtedly contribute to the professional and personal growth of alumni.
Furthermore, the CCLS Peru Chapter can help highlight the benefits of studying an LLM at QMUL to those Peruvian professionals who are interested in specialising abroad, but do not know where and what the world of opportunities open to them are. Last, but not least, the Chapter can contribute to the development of Peru through the sharing of specialised knowledge and the creation of ideas, projects and activities promoted by alumni.
How do you hope the Chapter will benefit alumni who join?
I have the firm conviction that the CCLS Peru Chapter will become a platform of opportunities for its current and future members. We will have the opportunity to meet and share experiences. Based on this and common interests, we can organise activities among ourselves. With the help of our alma mater, we can hold diverse academic conferences, social and networking activities (national and international) that contribute to the benefit of the members and participants - and why not for the development of our country.
