On August 5, the CCLS Nigeria organised its first webinar for 2022.
The session was a Dispute Resolution Roundtable. The event was attended by several CCLS alumni as well as other legal professionals. CCLS Alumnus, who is a CCLS Nigerian Chapter Committee Member, sent the following summary:
The event started with a welcome speech by Adebisi Sanda, CCLS Nigerian Chapter Committee Member. Following the welcome speech, a panel moderated by and comprised of (represented by Christopher Awodimila), Perenami Momodu, Folahan Ajayi, and Moyosola Oso provided crucial insights into access, timeliness, quality, and cost of justice; the effectiveness of arbitration in the Nigerian context and the Arbitration and Mediation Bill; small claims court; and the independence of the judiciary. The panel also addressed issues on the role of ICT/electronic filing system and on whether the rules of court and procedural technicalities are an ally or a foe. After the panel discussion, there was a lively discussion into the points raised by the panel and the webinar ended with closing remarks from Adebisi Sanda.
