On 30th November, CCLS Nigeria held a hybrid event for alumni and students hosted by ENR Advisory.
This event was opened by moderator Ibiyode Ibikunle (Energy and Natural Resources Law LLM, 2020) an Associate at ENR Advisory. The session had a group of three speakers who included Jennifer Martins-Okundia (Banking and Finance Law LLM, 2011), General Counsel at Rand Merchant Bank, Nosa Osazuwa (Law and Finance Msc, 2015), Partner at ENR Advisory and Dipo Akinbode, Deputy General Counsel at Aradel Holdings.
Ibikunle outlined the purpose of the webinar: “There is a need to move away from fossil fuels and the dependence on fossil fuels needs to be reduced because of the effect it has on the environment and the easiest way is to find alternative sources of energy especially through the use of renewable energy which is the basis of the discussion today”.
Jennifer Martins- Okundia, was the first panellist and gave a detailed and insightful view in response to the opening question of the webinar of how Nigeria a producer of fossil fuels, can effectively finance and meet the international standards of sustainable energy, despite being heavily reliant on fossil fuels for both consumption and income purposes. The second speaker Dipo Akinbode discussed his perspective as a project sponsor how ESG in general assisted or hindered him in his business activities and how he has successfully navigated some of its requirements.
This education and informative webinar concluded with a Q&A Session and closing remarks.
