CCLS Alumna was recently appointed as a Chair of the ITA, at the Center for American and International Law.
Dr Crina Baltag (Arbitration and Energy Law PhD, 2011) is very excited about her new role: “I am thrilled with my appointment as Chair of the Academic Council of the Institute for Transnational Arbitration (ITA), the Centre for American and International Law, for the term 2024-2027. This is even more so because I am the first non-US based Chair appointed, as well as because I have the privilege (and the responsibility) to follow a string of successful past-Chairs, including, the late Prof. David Caron, the late Prof Thomas Buergenthal, Prof. Chip Brower, Prof. Andrea Bjorklund, Prof. Susan Franck, Prof. Chiara Giorgetti, and Prof. Victoria Sahani.
Founded in 1986, the ITA was created to educate about arbitration as a means of resolving transnational business disputes and to promote global adherence to the world's principal arbitration treaties and standards of practice. Through its programs, scholarly publications and membership activities, led by many of the top global experts and supported by numerous world’s most actively engaged corporations, law firms, academics and individual practitioners, ITA has become an important global forum on contemporary issues in the field of international arbitration.
It is with great responsibility and honour to accept the appointment as Chair of the ITA’s Academic Council, along the exceptional vice-chairs: Professor Anna Spain Bradley, who works as a Professor of Law in the UCLA School of Law in Los Angeles, California USA; Professor Dr. Eric De Brabandere, Attorney – Partner at DMDB Law (Brussels), Professor of International Dispute Settlement Law, Director Grotius Centre for International Legal Studies Leiden Law School, Leiden, The Netherlands; Interim Dean Mark Feldman, Peking University, School of Transnational Law, Shenzhen, China.
The mission of the Academic Council of the Institute for Transnational Arbitration is to provide leading educational and professional activities in the field of international arbitration and I am committed to take this further through the works of the Academic Council – the Oral History Project, in particular: https://www.cailaw.org/media/files/ITA/oral-history-bios.pdf.
I am particularly indebted to Prof. Victoria Sahani, immediate past-Chair of the Academic Council, for her excellent leadership and mentorship.”
