CCLS Alumna New Appointment

Athina Fouchard Papaefstratiou was elected as a member of the International Chamber of Commerce for the 2024-2027 term.

On 1st July 2024, the CCLS alumna Athina Fouchard Papaefstratiou (Commercial and Commercial Law LLM, 2004) was appointed as a member of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the body responsible for administering arbitrations at the ICC, “one of the most important (if not the most important) arbitration institutions in the world” – according to Athina.

“I have often acted as arbitrator and as counsel in ICC disputes, and have experienced firsthand the top-quality services that the ICC offers for the resolution of international disputes. I am delighted to now contribute to the success of the ICC. My work with the ICC will also offer me valuable insights and experience, and render me an even better arbitrator!” Athina says.

Athina is an arbitrator based in Paris. A Greek national, she is a lawyer registered with the Bar in Paris and in Athens. With her LLM degree from Queen Mary University and 15 years of experience in the international arbitration departments of major law firms, she established her solo practice in 2022, focusing on missions as arbitrator (www.afparbitration.com). She has extensive experience in arbitrations involving States and State entities, as well as arbitrations with links to the African continent.

As a member of the ICC Court, Athina will be entrusted with tasks such as the appointment or replacement of arbitrators, the consolidation of proceedings, the setting and managing of arbitrator fees, the decision on challenges against arbitrators, and the scrutiny of draft arbitral awards.
