Being ranked in the Projects and Energy category of Chambers Global Guide 2024, a global and independent legal research company, represents a significant achievement in Nosa Osazuwa’s career, as recognition on the platform is limited to leading lawyers around the world. It is therefore a testament to the quality of work done advising clients in the corporate and commercial, and energy development spheres. This is reflected in the independent review by Chambers that “Nosa Osazuwa has notable expertise in oil and gas project-related acquisitions and financing. He also regularly advises clients on matters relating to energy and infrastructure, as well as regulatory mandates”.

Nosa’s legal career started at one of Nigeria’s biggest law firms as an Associate in the firm’s corporate and commercial practice, and it provided him with a solid foundation in corporate and commercial law. This foundation gained from advising multinationals, government parties and investors on big ticket transactions led to his decision to obtain an MSc in Law and Finance at Queen Mary, University of London (QMUL). In addition to the multi-cultural learning environment at QMUL, and in particular, its Centre for Commercial Law Studies, the interdisciplinary Law and Finance Program afforded him the opportunity to learn from experts and actual practitioners in multilateral finance institutions and in the law, banking and finance sectors.

Following the conclusion of his program at QMUL, Nosa had the opportunity to work for a short period with the Oil and Gas team at the London office of Eversheds LLP (now Eversheds Sutherland (International) LLP). While he subsequently returned to the firm where he started his career in Lagos, Nigeria, his experience at QMUL and Eversheds LLP led to him joining a team of leading lawyers at ENR Advisory, a boutique energy and natural resources law firm in Nigeria, whose work is substantially dedicated to advising clients operating in the petroleum, power, mining and infrastructure sectors on their operations, acquisitions and divestments of assets, project development, and regulatory compliance issues.

As a Partner at ENR Advisory, Nosa has worked on several significant energy project development transactions such as the cross-border projects for the West African Gas Pipeline western interconnection to allow the bi-directional injection and flow of gas from Ghana, and the gas pipeline between Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea to backfill a brownfield LNG plant in Equatorial Guinea with gas from Nigeria. Others include the financing and development of Nigeria’s first indigenous crude oil export terminal for the evacuation of stranded crude oil production from the Niger Delta region, and the development and financing of a petrochemical complex comprising a 10,000 MTPD methanol plant and a 1 Bscf/d gas processing plant and associated facilities.

Announced very recently on the London Stock Exchange RNS for 19 March 2024, Nosa led the Nigerian counsel team to British independent energy company, Savannah Energy PLC, in its acquisition of a 49% participating interest in Nigeria’s Stubb Creek Field from Sinopec International Petroleum Exploration and Production Corporation and Jagal Ventures Limited.
