“I am honoured to be recognized as a notable practitioner in Brazil by the specialized magazine IP Stars. I received this award as an overall recognition for more than 10 years of dedication to IP matters and for providing solutions to our clients on various issues”, said Henrique Cazerta (Intellectual Property LLM, 2023)

“Since the first lectures in Civil Law and Copyright during my undergraduate degree, I have always showed deep interest for IP matters, as innovation and multidisciplinary topics are in our daily agenda. After graduating from studying Law at University São Paulo, Brazil (2015), I have focused on accelerating my career development as a lawyer by deepening my knowledge in IP-related matters by attending short-term courses and seminars, and post-graduation programmes. In my opinion, it is fundamental for becoming a trustworthy practitioner to be exposed, both to the academic debate and to the daily practice, that will unveil how the legal discussions are meant to be interpreted and ruled.

In this sense, I attended the PhD program of the University of São Paulo as “aluno especial” (special student) in 2016 for Intellectual Rights and Copyright course and in 2019 I also completed   a post-graduation course “Intellectual Property and New Businesses” at Fundação Getúlio Vargas – both top ranked law schools in Brazil. Pursuing my academic path further, I entered the LLM programme at QMUL in Intellectual Property Law in 2022 and concluded it in the following year. This was certainly a milestone both in my career and on a personal level, as I was able to build so many incredible connections with people from the most varied cultures.

Careerwise, I was fortunate to be able to work with IP since my 3rd year of law school. I joined an internship program in the IP team in one of the most renowned law firms in Brazil (Pinheiro Neto Advogados). Both as an intern and afterwards as a lawyer therein, I have been exposed to different demands involving intellectual property, from drafting complex contracts to litigation cases. Being a full-service firm as Pinheiro Neto, this experience (from 2013 to 2017) allowed me to develop a multi-tasking profile as an IP lawyer.

I am currently partner of the litigation team at Gusmão & Labrunie, a top-tier intellectual property and tech law firm in Brazil. I have been working in the firm since 2017, with a short break for the LLM (mid-2022 to mid-2023). I deal with all kinds of IP-related litigation matters and manage a team of lawyers and interns. The cases involve trademarks, copyright, unfair competition, patent enforcement, among others, and we are glad to work on leading cases on multiple IP debates in Brazil. Such visibility in high-profile cases and clients allowed me to be awarded four IP Rising Star (2019, 2020,2021 and 2022) and two Notable Practitioner (2023-2024) nominations by the magazine IP Star, as well a mention in the Legal 500 publication.

Finding an area of law that I was passionate about, kept me motivated and was crucial for my career development. Additionally moving from working in a “full-service” law practice in the beginning, which gave me a wider perspective of the subject, to a more specialized litigation bureau enabled me to stand out amongst highly qualified professionals”.
