Why did you choose to study at CCLS?

Right from the very beginning, I was quite particular about the modules that I wanted to pursue for my LLM. There were plenty of options for me to choose from at CCLS which made studying at QMUL the obvious choice. Secondly, the Professors at CCLS are pioneers in their areas of specialisation and studying under their tutelage was the ideal first step in my journey of becoming a Human Rights Lawyer.

The flexibility and the accommodative approach used by the CCLS administration provides students to have an educational experience of their curation. In my experience, doing a Human Rights specialisation while having my dissertation on cyber law and human rights under the supervision of a tech law Professor was one of the most intellectually satisfying periods of my academic life.

What is your favourite memory of being a CCLS student?

In addition to the excellent academic support that CCLS offers, the exposure given via industry placements and interactions with legal experts was the most exciting part of my LLM journey. Moreover, the beautiful CCLS Holborn location in the heart of London’s legal district added significantly to the richness of my academic experience.

What does being a member of the CCLS community mean to you?

The CCLS community constitutes of a network of legal professionals all across the world. For one to be a part of such a vibrant network provides a wonderful resource for career growth and a platform for fruitful academic discourse.

How did your CCLS experience contribute to your career?

The combination of the research-oriented courses and the access to a multitude of resources, immensely helped me improve as a legal researcher. My industry placement with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime helped me further improve my research skills while polishing them through practical experience. I was tasked to work on human trafficking cases and rendering legal opinions while I simultaneously undertook modules on Migration and Refugee law.

My present role as a Judicial Law Clerk requires me to conduct advanced, rigorous legal research to assist the Hon’ble Supreme Court judges on an everyday basis. The skills that I was equipped with during my time at CCLS help me deliver with added ease. Also, the specific departmental focus on the development of legal critical thinking gives me the edge to keep on top of legal developments and the drafting of judgements on novel legal issues.

Why do you think prospective students should study at CCLS?

CCLS is the best space to develop a versatile skillset that will come in handy for all legal work avenues. The support provided to students extends even after graduation through career support services. Postgraduate study at CCLS was a deeply valuable experience for me and I would wholeheartedly recommend any prospective student to pursue their Master’s degree at QMUL.
