Yashvardhan completed his LLM in Intellectual Property Law at CCLS in 2016 and now works as a part of the Trademarks, Copyright and Design Prosecution team at Inttl Advocare, Noida - one of the few Tier-I IP firms in India. Read his story here:
I applied to LSE, UCL, Kings College London and QMUL as I had always wanted to study in London being the commercial hub of the world (and also being familiar with the place since childhood). Luckily, I got through all of them, however, I chose to pursue an LL.M in Intellectual Property Law at CCLS, Queen Mary University of London as the IP modules offered catered to my needs and were being taught by the most renowned IP professors in the world. Also, I looked forward to being taught by renowned professors and practicing lawyers along with students from UCL, LSE and Kings at the Centre for Commercial Law Studies, Lincoln Inn Fields. (CCLS is part of QMUL) and as these students are all under one roof in Central London, it was no doubt a life-changing decision.
Well, there is no such favourite memory but an amalgamation of memories which I would take with me after spending a year at this renowned institution. I met many people from diverse backgrounds and countries and also developed a deep insight into the workings of various legal regimes in different jurisdictions by interacting and learning from them. However, I have, and shall always maintain unconditionally, that my year as an LL.M. student at QMUL was easily one of the best years of my life. It gave me a lot more than just a degree. I had arrived to join a year-long course and to earn an additional qualification with incredible insights, priceless personal growth, lifelong friends, and long-lasting memories. These include:
• The Cumberland Lodge trip• Various dinner receptions, balls and a boat party• Fun and interactive sessions, strolling and spending time around the cafes near Lincoln’s Inn Fields before and after our lectures, knowing students from different communities will be there• Spending time with my close buddies near the water canal at the Mile End campus • Learning from the very best of professors an institution can offer.
See, I told you there are many memories and one cannot resort to one favourite memory.
It has made a world of a difference in how I approach things in life now and has made me a better person - so I would say I feel proud to be associated with this great institution and it has been an honour learning from the best in the world.
It has provided me with a great deal of confidence and mindfulness to face this competitive world. Intellectually, it consistently challenged me to simultaneously learn and unlearn — amplifying my personal growth and helping me develop a broader view and perception that I would previously not have considered myself capable of.
I would recommend prospective LLM students to consider CCLS, QMUL for Intellectual Property Law and Arbitration Law as the faculty, teaching methods, modules are second to none in the world and comprise of the top most learned professors.
