Ishaan completed his International Business Law LLM in 2017 and then returned to India where he set up his own law practice in the city of Gurugram
After completing my undergraduate degree in law here in India, I decided to pursue a postgraduate degree in law in the UK. I had made up my mind to study at a top tier university, one situated in London specifically. After much research and many enquiries, I narrowed the field to QMUL and two other universities, both ranked lower than QMUL, and I applied to all 3 of them. QMUL ticked most of the criteria on my checklist including the curriculum and modules offered for the specific course I had in mind. After receiving offers from all 3 universities, I wasted no time in accepting my place at QMUL. I can say with total conviction now that I made the right decision. My time at CCLS was enriching and rewarding and I am happy I got the opportunity to make CCLS a part of my educational journey.
I have many fond memories of my time at CCLS but one of my favourite memories from CCLS is when Professor George Walker took a small group of students (me included) to the Bank of England. We got to visit the premises from inside, took a peek at the museum and rounded off the tour with Professor Walker’s informative commentary about the Bank’s functioning and the structure of the building. I would never have been able to visit such a prestigious institution on my own and I am glad I got to see the interior of this, well, secretive building. This is just one of the many recollections I have of my time at CCLS. The faculty and most importantly my colleagues made it a most memorable year for me.
Being a member of the CCLS community is obviously very special to me. I am glad to be a part of this community comprising of such a diverse and talented group of people from all over the world. I made many friends during my time at CCLS, mostly older than me and with more work experience. It was quite interesting to pick their brains and gain insight into their field of work in their home jurisdictions. Moreover, most of the people at CCLS are incredibly supportive. Working with other people at CCLS on group projects was never mundane and I always enjoyed spending time with my colleagues on such projects. The diversity of the CCLS community is one of the best things about it and I am glad that I, in my own way can contribute something to this community.
I am a practising civil lawyer. My time at CCLS imbibed me with many skills which proved of great importance to me in my profession. The courses I opted for while studying at CCLS really broadened my horizons. The most important takeaway of my time at CCLS has to be that no matter what, no matter how much you think you know about a certain field/subject, there will always be more to learn. There will always be people who know more than you do.
CCLS (and Queen Mary in general) has one of the best faculties. Moreover, the campus and the facilities provided to the students here at CCLS make for a very conducive environment to study. For me, one very important factor was that both the campuses I had classes in (Holborn and Barbican campuses) are located in Central London and being in the middle of the city teeming with life and people is a very special and exciting experience. Moreover, London has numerous internship and work opportunities for students and the career advisers at QMUL are immensely helpful as far as securing internships/work placements is concerned. CCLS provides the perfect mix of a great faculty, excellent campuses, reputed name and a remarkably diverse batch of students from all over the world and I think this makes it an incredibly attractive university to study at for any prospective student.
