Julian Burling gives a presentation on insurance brokers, their role in the insurance life cycle (from placement, to dealing with premium and notice, and claims), their exposure to liability to the insured and the insurer, and their regulation by the FCA. Julian Burling is a commercial law barrister, arbitrator and mediator whose main area of work is insurance and reinsurance law and regulation. From 1985 to 2010 he practised in-house at the Corporation of Lloyd’s and was Counsel to Lloyd’s 1995 to 2010, dealing with most aspects of participation in the Lloyd's insurance market, including insurance, reinsurance, insurance intermediaries, UK and overseas insurance regulation, FSMA Part VII transfers, regulatory trusts and insolvency. He is author of Lloyd's: Law and Practice (BILA Book Prize 2014) and joint editor of Research Handbook on International Insurance Law and Regulation (BILA Book Prize 2013).
