Preiskel & Co, a leading technology, media and telecommunications law firm, has teamed up with Queen Mary to run a prize essay competition for postgraduate students.
The winner of the first prize will be invited to undertake a three week summer internship placement at Preiskel & Co. The first prize is £800, and two prizes of £100 will be awarded to runner ups. The competition is open to Queen Mary LLM students, students of the Distance Learning Programme in Computer and Communications Law and PhD students.
The essay ‘Big data and marketing - has the law caught up with the new digital reality?’ will examine online profiling and tracking in the light of data and consumer protection.
Professor Julia Hornle, Professor of Internet Law at QM, said: ‘This requires students to apply the law to real-world business models and taking into account commercial considerations. This is one of the most important transitions from academic scholarship to legal practice and the essay will help to achieve this transition by making students think about the practical application of the law.”
The winners will be announced at an evening reception in April 2014.
